Amusing music of 2005

Tuesday, December 27, 2005
The year 2005 is approaching its end, its time to recollect things happened in the past one year. I decided to start with cine music, yes the Tamil Cine songs that i enjoyed the most, hummed, sang in the past 1 year. I find it very hard to rate them. So i decided to list them rather than sorting. I have divided the songs into 2 categories "The persistent ones" and "The transient hits", persistence in this context is about 2 - 3 years. Transient is about 2 - 3 months. Okay lets go into the list. The listing is not based solely on music but includes the picturisation too

First we ll c the "The transient Hits":
---------------------------------------
Andangakka Kondaikaari - Anniyan
Beats are gud and the costumes with rich colour too deserves a mention.
No wonder that kids next-door loved this.

Devuda Devuda - Chandramukhi
There are 2 reasons for liking this song, first of all it is thalai's comeback after
the feeble Baba. The next is SPB.

Aararai Kodi - Ah Aah
I have already said about this in my previous blog. This song wud have been a splendid
hit if it had featured in a Rajini movie.

Sakkai podu - Daas
This music is similar to Karagaatakaaran, i always love the folk music
so i enjoy this song.

Ammulu kutti - Daas
Actually i love this song for its charanam coz the original tune was composed by great Raja --> Adiyei manam nillunna... from Neengal Kettavai

Mama paiya - Devathayai Kanden
Funny video and enjoyable tune.

Thee Pidikka - Arindhum Ariyaamalum
Sexy voice of Suchi and the way Yuvan has mixed Thyagaraja Bagavathar with
todays beats

Yela Yela - Arindhum Ariyaamalum
Charanam is sooper

Kaathadi pola yendi - Mayaavi
Video and choreography was different and Jo's cute expressions chance ae illa.

Vaadi Vaadi - Sachein
Best Kuthu of the year, Vj's dance and excellent modulation, best suited to dance for a while
[P.S am not a Vijai fan]

Suppose - Sukran
No reasons but i liked the song

Saathikadi - Sukran
Funny lyrics am typing some for sample below:
"Vaaya ellam moodikittu vanarama maarikkitu mooka vachu dhammadichu kaataporen"
"Paati ku naan vetti paakaporen, saamiku naan jeans thachi poda poren,
Kaviri ke thanniya thaan ootha poren, mottaiyila seepa vachi seeva poren"
"sunnuku naan torch adippen, balliku naan poova vappen"
Doesnt make any sense.

Appan panna thappula - Tirupaachi
Folk beats and Pushpavanam's voice [dont mistake me]

Thai maasam - Maja
Folk song and sema tune

Boom Boom - Raam
Peppy tune and gud choreography

OK now lets move on to the serious part,

"The Persistent hits"
---------------------

Adhu Oru Maalai - Gajini
Karthik's mellifluous voice and Harris's gud tune, a mild and gud number.
Asin looks gorgeous in the video.

Nizhalinai Nijamum - Raam
Vijai has proved an age old proverb "Pulikku pirandhadhu poonaiyaaguma"
Yes he has done a great job. While listening to this song i get a feeling that
i get when i listen to "Amma endrazhaikaatha..." from Mannan.

Thottu Thottu Ennai - Kadhal
Gud tune and lyrics

Oh Sugumari - Anniyan
Shankar Mahadevans Voice and modulation was very gud.I used to sing this many times even though nobody listens to it.

Aiyangaaru Veetu - Anniyan
Hari's Melodious voice and soft nature of the song.

Pani thuli - KNM
Tune and the seducing female voice

Raa Raa - Chandramukhi
Chance ae illadha paatu.Best of the year 2005. I always like songs that
have a Carnatic tinge to it. Especially when she sings the lines "Nee kondhu ne kori abhisaani kai nenu..."
I dunno what is Carnatic, i am totally clueless about the ezhu swarangal but i luv listening to semi carnatic songs rather than pure ones except for some of MS's.

Mayiliragae - Ah Aah
Tune reminded me of old b/w movie of MSV times, mild and soothing melody.
Video is crap, but i Luv it.

Alagae brahmanidam - Devthayai Kandaen
Gud tune and Harish's voice made me like this song.

Engoi Koyil Mani - JI
Melodious tune, tharu thalai's padam was a big flop but this song is the odd one out in the movie.

Yaaro oruthi - London
Unfortunately i saw this movie in theatre, but this song really impressed me and the the reason is Karthik.

Kaatril Varum geethame - Melody
Carnatic tinge and arumaiyana aalapanai by the 3 sisters.

Kajuraaho - Oru Naal Oru kanavu
Ilaiyaraja's tune and Hari's voice blended to perfection.

Vennila siragaidikka - Ponniyin selvan
Tune was gud, cute expressions by Gopika and meaningful lyrics that inspires everyone.

Kan moodi - Sachien
Melodious song and i always like melodies.

Unnai charanaidendhen - Thavamai Thavamirundhu
Melodious and voice of Srikumar was gud, it was a surprise from Sabesh Murali.

Of all this songs i feel only one as evergreen, yes "Raa Raa" from Chandramukhi.

If someone has read this post completely and reached here, i wud like to say a few words to u.

Thanks for reading such a huge post with patience ;)

King Kong the 8th Wonder/Nth Blunder of the world.

Monday, December 26, 2005
This was the movie i saw yesterday. Actually i was longing for some sleep coz i slept hardly for 3 hrs the previous night. Yup i left for office at morning 4 o clock, But my frends called me at afternoon for a movie, since it had been a long time since we have gone for a movie together i said yes and finally we decided for King Kong ( the truth is that we cudnt get a ticket for any other gud movie). "It is one of the best movies i have ever seen"
This wud have been my comment if i were a 10 year old kid, but i am old now am able to reason things. So i didnt like the movie much, am confused whether i should thank God for givin me this power of reasoning or to hate him coz am not able to enjoy a movie. OK now we ll go into the story line.
Heroine is a drama artist, suddenly the theatre is closed. She starves for food. Luckily gets an oppurtunity to act in a movie directed by a person who wanna shoot his movie in some new location (like our director Shankar), so he selects Skull Island where no one has even gone before and the crew starts out in a ship. The heroine falls for the script writer in the movie on the ship journey. When they go to the Skull island the heroine is unfortunately served as food for a huge Ape. Ape instead of eating her falls for her beauty and does whatever she says like a dog, Then the director traps KK and brings him to NewYork and finally the ape dies.
I tried to tell the story in one line but it took me so much. The positives of the movie are:
1. Peter Jackson has taken great effort in showing the NewYork as it was before 50 years or so. Each ever frame has been sculpted carefully.
2. There are some comic scenes between the heroine and KK.(King Kong)
3. Special effects are gud and especially KK is very well done.

Negatives are:
1. Remaking an old story is always negative.
2. Unnecessarily Peter Jackson introduced some dinosaurs and creepy animals. I think he has mixed all the monsters that have appeared in various english movies.
3. Hero is the greatest person in the world and no monster can kill him.
4. Heroine looks beautiful sometimes and at some frames she looks disgusting.
5. Over graphics and unnecessary chasing scenes between the movie crew and dinos.
6. Climax is too long and boring.
7. The tribal people of Skull island have over done their roles and unneccesary make up.

Peter Jackson has got a new disease after making the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the name of that disease is Longomoviasis (its my own term)i.e. somehow you should make the movie long even if it has a short story. This movie runs unnecesarily for around than 2 and half hrs. But i enjoyed that time irrespective of the movie quality, coz we passed comments along with the other audiences, we compared the movie with our own Rama Narayanan. We heard songs like "Nandri sollave unakku en mannava vaarthai illaiye..." when KK saves the heroine and "Sollal aditha sundari...." when heroine and KK enter into a ooodal etc.
The only thing that i liked in the movie was the post climax dialogue, when KK is dead the people nearby will say that "The planes killed him" at that time our director (not peter Jackson) says "It is not the planes, it is the beauty that killed the Beast", thats true, even beasts and great people fall for beauty and die at last.
Thank God this movie dint gimme a headache like War of Worlds.
In short if you have no other work to do or if you have any kids go for King Kong.

The Q is dead...

Friday, December 23, 2005
This is the ad of Satyam cinemas as we may have seen, sometimes when i see this i imagine about a similar one, our parliament building on the frame and outside there should be a board saying "Morality is Dead" coz of the people who stay inside. But today a gud decision has been taken inside that building. The MPs who shamelessly accepted money for asking questions were stripped of their stature. Kudos to the people who did it. But this punishment is not enough it is infact not a punishment at all. They should have passed a law like this, "These MPs or their immediate relations i.e. family members should never contest in any election in this country for the next 5 years atleast" .So Morality is not dead it is at coma stage, waking up sometimes like the one today.....

P.S: I searched for a single word for all good things like purity, humanity, manners, justice, virtue etc. couldnt find a better word than morality so used it.

Commitments....

Thursday, December 22, 2005
Yesterday i received an email from my friend, i was shocked on reading this mail. The reason is he is bachelor life came to an end and he has started sharing his life with his wife. Yes he is married. 23 years is a very young for a guy to get married. This makes my mind generate some thoughts. Pros of getting married at this age is you can feel a bit matured and responsible, you have a girl to share your everything with, that feelin makes you confident, comfortable. There are other reasons too.... But cons are that you cannot be independent. You cannot stay late night in office or leave to a movie with your friends, it creates a circle around you and you have to live inside that circle. We ll have to live up to her expectations, we ll have to make decisions based upon her opinion. In short we cannot live a life of our own. So obviously there are more cons than pros at this stage. Some people prefer to be bachelors for life. But most of them prefer the other way and i hope majority wins. Kaalam badhil sollum......
P.S: This blog may seem a bit random but this is the thought i got after reading that mail so am puttin it as it is

Freshness.....

Tuesday, December 20, 2005
This week i have my monitoring activities so had to be early in office, i mean that i have to be in office by 4:00 AM IST:(. Even though it is very hard for me 2 wake up in that time, i have to do it.Amma told me to hire a call taxi daily. But i preferred bike rather. The last one year in this industry has made me the laziest person in the world. I wake up only at 7:30 or 8:00 am. It has been a long time since i have seen this world at 5:00 AM. Now i ve gotta chance i dont wanna waste it. The freshness of the air and the calmness of the streets really makes me happy with the bonus of a slight drizzle. Thanks GOD. My mom insisted me 2 wear a helmet but i delibrately ignored it coz i wanna enjoy the fresh air blowing in my face. The bike journey existed only for half an hour. The chillness of the air was also great. On the whole i enjoyed riding in the streets at 3:30 morning. If i wake up at this time my whole day is fresh and brisk. Thats y our ancestors had the practise of waking up early i guess.
BTW i didnt wear a helmet and now am suffering a headache because of the chill air :)

Weekend comedy

Thursday, December 15, 2005
Last weekend after a strenous night at the office i thought of going to a movie on Sunday, called my friend and asked him, finally we decide to go 4 Kanda Naal Mudhal or Thavamai Thavamirundhu, unfortunately we couldnt get a ticket for both the movies in Udayam. My friend called me to tell this sad news. I asked him what are the other movies, he said another theatre is showing Sivakasi. I asked machi why dont we consider it, these are words that came from his mouth "adhukku naan veetla poi sappitu thoongiduven da", i thought that something is better than nothing and tried to convince him , even i begged him and at last offered him a sponsorship, but even then he remained adamant and refused to come for the movie finally i asked him "dei padam aerkanave paathutiya da", he said no. I asked the reason then why dont you come. He said "i quit watching his movies after Madurey da", i was quite helpless and cud say nothing to him. and finally we agreed on what he said and veetlaye saapititu paduthu thoonginom... OC ticket provide panniyum varamaatengaranga aana padam mattum sooper hit aayiduthu... adhan comedy :))

Shame for Indian Cricket

Wednesday, December 14, 2005
Today our board announced the great decision of dropping our Dada, Bengal Tiger, Prince of Kolkata. One of the worst decisions that BCCI has ever made. They cannot tell one gud reason for this decision, Dada contiributed 80 runs in this match and supported Sachin very well in his historic innings. He is more experienced than most of others in the team. Why did BCCI drop him?
The answer may have 2 possibilities. Either Chappel is planning for a vengeance or the new senior management is acting biased towards one particular state. Even mediocre players like Kanitkar etc. were given ample time to prove themselves, but what about Dada, he is a star, he shuld be given gud chance to prove himself. He has already been punished by stripping his captaincy. Why is the BCCI being so harsh? Already politics has done much in the team and that is the only reason gud bowlers like Balaji are not there in the team. If consistency is the problem then why r people like Sehwag still in the team, based on past records right. Then Dada deserves a sure place in the team. Actually i felt annoyed by the way Kolkata fans behaved in the match against South Africa, but now i feel the other way. These kind of decisions always spoils the morale of the team. Indian team a kadavul thaan kaapathanum.....
